Diwali and Govardhan Puja 2026 in Braj: Annakut Travel and Stay Guide

Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026, followed by Govardhan Puja on Monday, 9 November. For devotees travelling to Braj, this is one of the most important periods to plan well in advance. Govardhan Puja is closely associated with Shri Giriraj Ji, and the Ministry of Tourism notes that devotees perform Govardhan Parikrama during Govardhan Puja or Annakut.

Why this weekend needs early planning

The Sunday–Monday sequence can create a concentrated rush across Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan and Jatipura. Normal travel-time estimates may not apply. Hotels, vehicles and suitable family rooms can fill early, while access and parking arrangements may change for crowd management.

Where should a Govardhan-focused family stay?

If Annakut, Jatipura Mukharwind, Shri Giriraj Ji darshan or Parikrama is the primary purpose, staying in Jatipura places the family close to the Govardhan circuit. A Vrindavan base is more suitable when Vrindavan temples are the only priority; it is less efficient when the family must travel to Govardhan during peak festival movement.

Check in, confirm meals and ask for current traffic guidance. Keep identification, medicines and booking details ready. Avoid leaving room selection until arrival if travelling with children or senior citizens.

Sunday, 8 November: Diwali

Use the day for selected local darshan and family observance. Confirm actual temple programmes locally. Do not assume that every destination will be accessible on the same schedule as an ordinary day.

Monday, 9 November: Govardhan Puja and Annakut

Start early and carry only essentials. The official Mathura district guide describes the complete Parikrama as 21 km. Families should choose a full or partial route based on fitness, weather and crowd conditions.

Tuesday, 10 November: Radha Kund and onward travel

If time permits, keep a quieter morning for Radha Kund, Kusum Sarovar or Mansi Ganga before departure.
