Shri Girirajji, Mukharvind Temple

Mukharvind Temple, the center and face of Govardhan Parvat, the appearance place of Lord Girirajji is located at base of holy Govardhan Parvat in small village Jatipura at distance of 4 km from Govardhan, 25 km from Mathura and 30 km from Vrindavan. Mukharvind Temple is also popular as Jatipura Temple or Girirajji Temple and as name suggest this is the lotus face of Govardhan also belelived as beautiful face of Lord Krishna or Lord Shrinathji. It is also believed that this is the place where Lord Krishna saved brijvasi from heavy rain and did the pastime of Govardhan Lila where Bal Krishna had lifted the Govardhan Parvat. This is highly sacred place for follower of Vaishnav sect and thousands of devotee across the world visits here throughout the year. Mukharvind Temple of Jatipura is one of the most important pilgrimage site of Govardhan Parikrama.

Mukharvind temple is a huge rock formed seems as face of Lord Girirajji and located at the base of Goverdhan hill and worshipped by devotee by offering the milk, flowers and sweets. The Jalebi made from Potato is very popular here and also offered to Giriraji along with milk. Lots of saints and almost all popular Vaishnavacharyas did worship of Girirajji here thus you can find lots of holy place around Jatipura and Govardhan Hill. Mukharvind is also known as shringar sthali as different Shringar is observed at different time of days. You can find lots of devotee attending the Shringar Darshan and Shringar Aarti in evening when you can surely fall in love with Lord Krishna. As it is believed that Lord Krishna or Shrinathji has to come every nigh here for rest. Here rock is decorated in such way that it resembles as the exact image of Srinathji. The image of Krishna lifting the mountain is also depicted on top of the hill here.

There are several other sacred places nearby the Mukharvind Temple, these are Mahaprabhuji Bethakji, Dandvati Sheela, Sunder Sheela, Shri Gusainji’s baithakji, Shri Girdharji baithakji, Gokulnath jis temple, Shri Madanmohanji’s temple, Shri Chandramaji’s temple and many others. As lots of saints worshipped here thus you can feel the divine vibrations and energy.

Dandvati shila is believed to have been six feet tall when ShreeNathji went to Mewar. Due to the shraap given by Pulastya muni to Govardhan Parvat, it reduces in size every day. This Dandvati shila is in the earth and once the land around it has been dug so that the Dandvati Shila is visible and devotee can blessed with darshan.

As per the legends, Lord Shri Krishna left Braj dham and went to Nathdwara for further duties. On request of Gopis and Brijwasis, Shri Krishna agreed to come to sleep here for six months. It is believed that Shri Krishna comes to rest here for six months during Vasant Panchmi to Dassehra. After the Sandhya Aarti at Nathdwara temple, he comes at the Mukharvind Mandir and give Shayan Darshans.
